Student wellbeing
Like all NSW public schools, we provide safe learning and teaching environments to encourage healthy, happy, successful and productive students.
The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.
The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allows them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.
Cooperative Learning Strategies
A range of these activities are embedded in our classroom practices. Student seating in class fosters the development of cooperative learning behaviours, to enhance each student's wellbeing, thus support their learning.
During wellbeing lessons students often are presented with a challenging task. They work in their cooperative learning groups to complete a range of these tasks, which rely on teamwork for successfully completion.
Working cooperatively is an essential life skill and a must for every workplace. Very few of us ever have the luxury of 'choosing' work colleagues.
Beginning with your family we continue to develop these life skills in all aspects of their school life.
Sun Safety is paramount for student and staff long term health, given our Australian climate, we are proactive about sun safety at Chillingham PS. The attached Sunsmart Policy outlines the procedures we follow on a daily basis.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.
