NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.
You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.
Our school is very privileged to have Ethics (SEE) classes taught by passionate ex-teachers. The classes are taught during school hours and in the presence of the class teacher.
In ethics classes, children learn that their opinion is respected, it’s OK to have a different opinion from their classmates, and that it’s also OK to change your mind.
Students learn how to disagree respectfully, to build on each other’s ideas, and to make their own decisions based on ethical reflection instead of peer pressure or habit.
The focus is for children to develop the skills to identify ethical issues, a willingness to engage in respectful discussion with their families and friends about ethical issues and the ability to think widely and critically in exploring reasons and developing arguments.
